The Villa was built for entertaining, Scherry and Bill Harrah completed it in 1963. Down stairs it had a dining room that could serve a sit down dinner for up to 150 guests. The silver service and china were extravagant, the dining room had a great lake view. Shortly after the Villa was completed the I.R.S. informed Bill Harrah that he could not stay in the Villa personally without tax implications because it was a corporate asset. From that time on Bill Harrah spent most of his time at Ranch Harrah in Reno. Most headliners at Harrah’s were allowed to throw a party there. A big part of Harrah’s success was his willingness to take care of the entertainers.
